Quick update... Thursday

No real news to report. Kathy is still comfortable and everyone is working hard to make the time go easily. There are daily ups and downs. Kathy seems to tire more easily and has said that she is not taking any more trips. I guess we will see 'cuz with Kathy ... you never know.

I finally saw Avatar, the movie, last night. There is a scene where the doctor/scientist is wounded and dying. The hero is carrying her to this beautiful place to see if the people there can heal her. She rallys for a moment, looks around and says, " I should take some samples." It reminded me so much of Kathy.

One last note - brother Rich sent a 19 pound bread pudding overnight from Puerto Rico. Kathy ate so much her stomach hurts.

  3. A most wonderful call from Kathy today, who, in the midst of her own life transition, comforted me and, when no one else could, convinced me of a joyous "other side." The power of creation is always glowing in a flower or a stone, but my belief in being able to find it away from the earth weak until talking to Kathy today. Thank you and bless you sweet Kathy.

  5. The way I think of you Kathy:

From time to time Ive seen you in a brief, momentary lull,
But no way have I ever seen you dull.

Nursing was ok for some, but you had a larger grander plan,
and you forged ahead "like a man".

You taught me and mine that its ok, that there's no shame,
all little girls not born the same.

Kathy, when I met and married sister Sue,
I never dreamed I had married you too.

Youve come a long way from Little Miss Dairylee,
    bouncing on Hoppy's knee,
to " Hey you with the saw, get away from that tree".

Kathy you are a true leader.
you showed us how and why and where and when,
    then leave,
for us to find our own way
    round the next bend.

We will not let you down my friend.

Your ever lovin and greatful brother-in law..Ed

  6. Laurel's prayer was so wonderful. Karen has forwarded beautiful photos and stories of her delightful granddaughter and I think she will carry on the critical work of Kathy and Karen.

Shirley's connection of the Avatar scientist with Kathy was the same connection I made. The image of her becoming one with that spiritual tree was very powerful. Kathy truly is "other worldly."

And what a WONDERFUL message from Hillary, with special touches from Ed's poem and Sue's note. I feel so fortunate to have shared special time with Kathy's amazing family. I can almost smell the aroma of Rich's bread pudding. 19 POUNDS!!!!

  7. Dearest Kathy,
I am so grateful that Shirley has been keeping up the blog...I do not want to bother you and Julie with calls and hope that you get to see some of my messages when you are up to it!
My dearest friend, a friendship like ours, since we were 8 year old little girls transcends many friendships...
we have not lived in the same location for decades as life's travels took us on separate paths...but it did mean that my life always had continuity.
We've shared chapters of our lives over 5 decades both past and presnt...
Other friends, new friends see the me that I have become...you know the me that I have always been.
Just as I know that history you grew up from, and the stories that shaped the woman who you have become...always an inspriation and role model and a dearest friend.
A friendhip like ours is something to cherish and I do. Love, Mary
