A good night!

We are riding the waves of emotion like a ship in a storm. A call went out yesterday via Carol (our call girl) for us to all come over at 6pm. I feared the worst and tried to prepare myself. The word on the phone tree was that it was getting increasingly hard for Kathy.

Kathy was in bed with a big smile and a welcome. Wow. What a relief to get another day for all of us and Kathy to enjoy one more night together. The reason for the celebration was that it was Richie and Luz's last night with us. They are returning home today. We will really miss them both. Linda Bobroff delivered a fabulous meal and Julie went crazy ordering appetizers from The Jones. We all sat on the back porch in the heat of the night sweating, laughing and just enjoying the hours together.

Thank the stars, your god/goddess, the trees whatever. As Mimi said last night, the love and thoughts that Kathy's friends around the world are sending are making these days easier.

Why do we get to have her? Since 1976 when Kathy came to us in G’ville some got to have a great doctor and many if us a fearless leader. The parties in Melrose, Hawthorn, Belles on Bikes, Tits on Tyres, the kisses and laughter, the cleverly barked orders we jumped to, acolytes, as she herded cats.

Why are we so lucky and how we would spin out of control without her, like monkeys invading the heavenly palace.

The accident. Why did we get to bear witness to the most mighty body/mind/spirit transformation imaginable, out of the unimaginable? What amount of good has each of us done, that we get to live in the same world with Kathy?

In Julie and Kathy’s light we grieve as the Crumple Heap and witness, once again, the fragile fern fist of her spirit unfurl, straighten up and face upward the sun, the stars and the next Great Adventure. Herding cats beyond.

So, what will we do with this gift we so madly want to refuse? Just to have her memory for the rest of our lesser lives? Kathy’s impact on Making Better is exponential. How far and wide will our own ripples go, in her name and spirit? God(ess) bless you all.
