Friends
Our circle of friends have just received the news from the doctor and Kathy was right in her own diagnosis (as usual). She does have a very fast growing cancer and is at peace with this news. She has decided against treating the cancer and would rather just enjoy her days with her friends and loved ones.
We don't know yet what the next days will hold. Kathy will be here at the hospital for the night (Friday). Kathy wants to go to her lake house and North Carolina soon if possible.
The family is gathering from out of state. We know you love her and want to be in touch. Kathy will need to rest up for a couple of days. Leave your comments and wishes and contact info on this blog. As soon as Kathy is ready for visitors, she will be in touch.

Kathy, I hope your time in North Carolina is filled with blissful experiences.
ReplyDeleteIf in Ashville, look up Radavie, formerly Faye Young of Gainesville.

ReplyDeleteKathy & Julie:
ReplyDeleteMy heart, too, is heavy at this news. I don't know what to say or write on my own right now.
Doug would like to request the Kwan Seum Bosal chant in Kathy's name at the Gateless Gate Zen Center. Would that be okay?
Here is a passage from part 12 of Mary Oliver's poem "Evening Star" (from The Leaf and the Cloud) that reminds me of you, Kathy. (You are the "me" and the "I" of the poem.)
"Think of me
when you see the evening star.
Think of me when you see the wren
the flowing root of creek beneath him,
dark silver and cold
Remember me I am the one who told you
he sings for happiness.
I am the one who told you
that the grass is also alive, and listening.
alleluiah alleluiah
sighs the pale green moth
on the screen door,
alleluiah alleluia
the red tongues of the white swans
shine out of their black beaks
as they shout
as their wings rise and fall
rise and fall
oh rise and fall
through the raging flowers of the snow.

"Kwan Seum Bosal, known as Avalokitesvara in Sanskrit, is the bodhisattva of compassion. Born from a ray of light emanating from Amita Bul's right eye, Kwan Seum Bosal assists those who request admittance to the Pure Land. Kwan Seum literally means 'perceive world sound,' which is also translated as 'one who hears the cries of suffering.' She is often pictured with her head slightly inclined as if listening . . . and holding a flask containing 'amrita,' the nectar of compassion. The quality that is represented by Kwan Seum Bosal is the compassionate wisdom which is within each of us."
Ham I am? Kathy is back.. and hamming it up with aplomb. Check out the photos of her just after she got into her room after the biopsy.
ReplyDeletelove you Kathy!
ReplyDeleteBless you Kathy you are an inspiration. What a great decision. I've read about studies that found that a diet high in saturated fat and cholesterol stops and reverses fast growing brain tumors. If not, it's still a delicious way to go - I have thoroughly enjoyed this way of recovering from the brain damage I got from mercury poisoning. It seems to be working. Best of luck to you and I hope to see you around town for the next couple of decades at least.
ReplyDeleteKathy and Julie, You are in our loving thoughts. Mary & Keith
